Abstract: In April 2022, Atkins Library at UNC Charlotte hosted the Digital Humanities Institute, a conference that brings together digital humanities enthusiasts from across the state of North Carolina to discuss digital pedagogy, digital research methods, and digital projects. In fall 2020 the conference was hosted wholly remotely in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. In spring 2022, with vaccines more readily available and universities exploring hybrid situations, the conference planning committee grappled with how to navigate hosting a conference in an increasingly hybrid world. Ultimately, after conversations with working groups within the library and at the Digital Humanities Collaborative of North Carolina (DHC-NC), we decided to try to achieve the best of both remote and virtual conferences, hosting a day of wholly virtual sessions as well as in-person meetups throughout the state. This set-up benefited from the increased access that virtual conferences offer (allowing participants to attend without the barriers of travel costs and location) while also providing for the in-person networking people value in attending conferences. This lightning talk will discuss how we planned for both events, problems we encountered, and feedback from attendees.

Title: Librarian Supported Health Literacy Instruction in Employee Wellness Programs

Presenter: Colleen Foy

Abstract: In fall 2022, as the Science Librarian at Wake Forest University (WFU), I will assess participant pre-post health information literacy (HIL) levels in WFU employee programs. Healthy Exercise & Lifestyle ProgramS (HELPS) offers a six-month weight management and three-month wellness program designed to support individuals to achieve various healthy lifestyle modifications. In partnership with HELPS program experts, I will include librarian-facilitated HIL instruction to support literacy development and understanding among participants. Research will include the measurement of HIL level identifiers and will serve as an excellent example for libraries to promote outreach services among faculty and staff.

Title: Sustainable Instruction with LibWizard

Presenter: Garrison Libby

Abstract: As library instruction was forced into online environments due to the COVID-19 pandemic, librarians at Central Piedmont Community College began brainstorming ways to bring engaging, interactive library instruction to online courses. The team decided to try using Springshare's LibWizard to create information literacy modules that replicated the kinds of skills taught in a traditional one-shot course. This lightning talk will share the team's experiences with LibWizard, as well as the benefits and drawbacks of the platform as a tool to create tutorials.

Abstract: COVID-19 created a new learning landscape requiring universities to quickly transition from in-person to online instruction. In Fall 2020, I took an opportunity as a librarian and writing instructor to navigate this new environment by integrating a unique combination of library resources and learning objects, developed with several peers, into asynchronous online first-year writing classes, increasing accessibility for students. By incorporating these materials, several patterns emerged that have demonstrated that intentional scaffolding of library resources is an effective means of teaching information literacy. This lightning talk will explain the integration process, results, and implications for the future.
